Three years in the making, the Center's major project to strengthen existing remarriages is already in multiple printings. Within 30 days of national release, the book was selected by WalMart stores and stocked in WalMart book sections nationwide.
"Happily Remarried" is published through Harvest House Publishers of Eugene, Oregon. It is one of three principal books to-date in The Center's ongoing series for families in crisis and transition.
Co-authors Dr. David and Lisa Frisbie, often known as "America's Remarriage Experts," spent three years interviewing dozens of remarried couples, gathering real-life stories, strategies, and helpful ideas that could be effectively reproduced in other remarriages and blended (step) families.
The result is a book brimming with help for those raising children, managing money, and learning to resolve the conflicts that naturally occur in a second (or later) marriage union.
The book's contents include a section on the four "first principles" for building a strong remarriage, based on the seminar developed by co-authors David and Lisa Frisbie. The modular concept of the book then includes sections grouped around the critical issues most remarriages face, including finding agreement on the discipline of children, learning to manage money (or the lack of it), dealing with difficult ex-partners and relatives, and many more topics.
Highlighted within the text are specific examples of healthy, positive remarriages, some of which have thrived for four or even five decades. One of the most remarked-about features of the book is a profile of Ronald and Nancy Reagan -- based not on political discussions but rather on the obvious depth and quality of the Reagan's relationship with each other: his second marriage, her first.
The most requested excerpts from the book have been the Reagan section (mentioned above) and the section on "who's the boss?" explaining the best current theory on child discipline by stepparents.
Programs & Resources for Remarried Couples:
Since the mid 1980;s, the Center has been directly involved in preparing and presenting key educational information and training programs for persons who remarry following an experience of divorce.
The core seminar developed by the Center is entitled "The Remarriage Journey." Its primary focus articulates the four 'first principles' for remarried persons. This core seminar is available as a 3- to 4-hour session, and can be expanded with additional modules into a one-day or two-day weekend event.
Sponsored by social service providers, churches, and other organizations, the core seminar resources remarried persons in areas of conflict resolution, decision making, communication, and effective parenting strategies
Seminar presenters frequently incorporate a time of questions and responses, during which attendees can interact with each other and with the presenters. These informal and spontaneous sessions have often led to the exploration of new areas of study, and to the development of additional resources and programs.
Additional seminars and presentations are available as stand-alone options or as add-on modules to an existing remarriage event, and can be used as companion workshops and programs in conjunction with the core seminar.
